2. There’s some romance on the horizon for Dean in Supernatural.

3. We’ve been playing the latest chapter of the Heroes Evolutions iStory – have you sampled the choose-your-own-adventure-style game yet?

5. IO9 suspect a mind-melding ninth season of Smallville could be on the card…

Pick of the Day | Thursday 20 November

bones body plane

9pm, Bones, Sky1
There’ll be plenty of airplane food gags tonight as B&B are en route to China when a flight attendant finds a fully cooked human body in the plane’s industrial microwave. Nice. B&B harness the power of the internet to identify the victim as a travel writer who was working on a controversial story about airline pilots, but they have to solve the murder before the plane lands and they lose their jurisdiction.

10pm, Life, ITV3
It isn’t just an ironic coincidence when a woman who is wearing angel wings manages to fall to her death. When the crew investigate the case they find that she is linked to a Russian mastermind who is involved in a scam involving mail order brides and lots of missing money!

11pm, The Closer, More4
It all gets very exciting when the Deputy District Attorney’s wife is found dead on a beach. It looks like she has been killed by a serial killer who does things in threes, and Brenda and co must try to stop him completing his latest grisly trio.

Look at this rather mysterious but pretty awesome new poster for season five of Lost!

New Lost Season Five Poster!

So many questions are raised by this new Lost promo. Is it the Oceanic Five (plus Ben and Desmond) versus those left on the island this season? Should we be concerned that there’s no sign of Jin with the other islanders? Where are Rose and Bernard (perhaps they’re with Molly off Heroes)? And what about Vincent the Dog? Why hasn’t he had his own photoshoot yet?

And whose destiny is calling? Is Destiny a new character? If you’ve any idea what this mysterious new poster means, do let us know…

Forget about John Sergeant, it’s a new Flight of the Conchords promo!!!

Kudos to Rob, for pointing us in the direction of this wonderful new promo for the second series of Flight of the Conchords, which starts in the US in January. All things being equal, it should air here in the UK on BBC4 in the Spring…

TV Spies Ben and Gareth are back, talking about episode nine of Heroes in a tvspy vodcast

Crikey - I am more confused than ever by episode nine of Heroes, the menacingly titled It’s Coming. Is Arthur Petrelli going soft? Why else would he suddenly free Angela from her mental prison? I think there’s got to be a machiavellian scheme behind it, and it must involve Claire, since his rather useless henchmen Flimsy Flint and Knee-trembling Knox failed to snag her… And there’s another thing that’s bothering me - how does Nathan navigate his way round when he flies - does he consult passing geese, or does he have a sneaky GPS system stashed in his pocket?

Anyway, without further ado, let me introduce the men in the know, Ben and Gareth… perhaps I can send my queries to them…

Pick of the Day | Wednesday 19 November

 elle heroes

10pm, Heroes, BBC3
It all gets a bit lovey dovey in Heroes this week, with firstly Sylar and Elle having an electric encounter and then Parkman and Daphne confessing their true feelings to each other. Also Nathan meets his father for the first time since discovering that he wasn’t dead and we discover how Hiro is after his encounter with Arthur last week! A top notch episode, and don’t forget to check out TV Spy Guys Ben and Gareth in their vodcast here, right after the episode.

10.45pm, Medium, BBC1
This week, Joe is feeling very happy with himself when his presentation to an investment firm on his new solar-powered invention manages to impress a venture capitalist. Well done him! Meanwhile, FBI profiler Agent Edward Cooper returns to Phoenix with seemingly good intentions, but Allison’s dreams tell her that not all is as it seems… it never is, Alison, it never is…

9pm, The Big Bang Theory, E4
There is much hilarity in this week’s double bill, as Sheldon is forced to keep a secret when Penny confides in him about her unusual experiences on her first date with Leonard. Then it all goes wrong when Leonard sees Penny with another man and decides to play it safe and go back to the arms of Leslie Winkle… something Sheldon does not agree with at all!

Five things we learned today | Wednesday 19 November

Heroes to dumb itself down

1. Volume four of Heroes (Fugitives, due after Christmas) is going to be far less complex in its storytelling.

2. Our favourite ex-Office star Rashida Jones is joining the cast of SNL’s Amy Poehler’s new sitcom (which now isn’t a spin-off from The Office).

3. And Everyone Loves Raymond and Back to You star Patricia Heaton has a new sitcom in the works too.

4. Lipstick Jungle may not have been axed after all, it’s in a Pushing Daisies-esque limbo instead.

5. Doc Arzt has some interesting audio of the Lost producers in converstion.

The latest on Scream Queens, where things are getting a little saucy…

It’s been a couple of weeks since we updated you on VH1’s hunt for the next Saw star Scream Queens – and because VH1 insist on putting clips of the show on the UK-unfriendly Hula site we have to rely on our TV hero Joel McHale to brief us on The Soup. So here we go: this week Michelle goes all out to prove her, ahem, acting credentials, while Jessica takes her screen test to a rather offensive new level – “a place where no one else will take it”.

Warning, things get a little naughty…

Do the hippy hippy shake – Smallville comes over all Cloverfield in new episode Bride!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Here’s the trailer for the next episode of Smallville, Bride, in which the amazing Chloe marries the rather undeserving Jimmy. And someone at Smallville HQ has clearly been watching JJ Abrams’ monster movie Cloverfield as the whole episode’s shot on a rather shakey camcorder – including our first glimpse of new big bad Doomsday. Frankly, it looks pretty awesome and we can’t wait to see it on E4 in January.

Seven things we learned today | Tuesday 18 November

 Bruno hits Medium!

1. Sacha Baron Cohen - in the guise of fashion journo Bruno - has been causing chaos on the set of Medium.

2. David Hasselhoff might grace the Knight Rider reboot with his presence after all.

3. Another actress has been axed from Grey’s Anatomy.

4. IO9 have been studying the clues to find out who or what the final Cylon is in Battlestar Galactica.

5. And it seems the Battlestar webisodes are set to out one regular character as gay.

6. Supernatural sibling Dean is about to get a lot younger

7. We’re loving Amanda’s blog on Ugly Betty’s Mode website.

Pick of the Day | Tuesday 18 November

Michael and Lincoln Prison break

10pm, Prison Break, Sky1

With the plan to steal Scylla all in place, nothing can go wrong… as if! The entire mission depends on Michael’s health holding up, and he has been told that too much stress could kill him! What wont help matters is that Gretchen dresses up as a schoolgirl to lure Pad Man into a hotel room and steal his key card, but while she is undressing him he catches her patting him down! Lets hope Michael doesn’t see any of that!

9pm, CSI: Miami, Five

Horatio is on fire this week, he travels to Rio where he has a shoot-out in the jungle with four armed men, but of course he survives. He then quickly returns to Miami where he continues the search for kidnapped Calleigh. She is having a total nightmare, having to now help her captors cover their tracks when they kill someone. Of course she manages to leave a few helpful clues for the CSI’s that are looking for her to find. Clever!

8pm, Stargate Atlantis, Sky1

It’s as exciting as ever in Atlantis this week. Michael infiltrates Atlantis with a number of genetically modified henchmen. Using a puddle jumper to render the control room staff unconscious, he quickly takes over the ship. Hope you are keeping up! Teyla is being held captive behind a web of intricate defences, so the others in the team must stop their enemy before he takes total control of the ship - including the self-destruct mechanism! Told you it was exciting stuff!

In the latest issue of TV & Satellite Week…

tvsw-48-cover.jpg

The wait is over… Jack Bauer’s back, and he’s on the cover of the latest edition of TV & Satellite Week. We’ve got an interview with Kiefer Sutherland about the flawed hero’s return in 24: Redemption, and Kiefer reveals some of his reservations about the show.

If that’s not thrilling enough, we’ve also got the lowdown on veteran comedy actress Lily Tomlin’s appearance in Desperate Housewives, Chris Rock putting the world to rights with his fearless humour, terrifying Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles star Shirley Manson revealing why she thinks Maggie Thatcher was on to something, and of course the weekly US drama rundown in TV Spy. Get it while it’s hot!

Robert Carlyle gives us the lowdown on his role in 24: Redemption

Redemption

We’ve got a short interview with 24: Redemption star Robert Carlyle in the next issue of TV & Satellite Week, but there wasn’t nearly enough room in one page for everything he told us, so we’re putting the full transcript here for your enjoyment. Robert gives us a few hints about 24: Redemption, tells us about his old pal Kiefer, and also updates us on the other projects he’s got in the pipeline. Top geezer.

What’s the story of Redemption?
Redemption is a two-hour stand-alone piece that bridges the gap between Season 6 and Season 7 of 24. It tells you where Jack has been - he is an exile and he’s been wandering the world, through Afghanistan and several countries in the Middle-East. He ends up in the fictional country of Sangala to bed down with his old friend, Carl Benton.

Carl trained with Jack in the Special Services and turned his back on that world a long, long time ago. He explains why he turned his back on it all and you begin to think that Jack might find the same peace in his life and that his life might follow the same route. Carl is teaching in a school, trying to stop young kids being rounded up into tin-pot dictator armies so they can be used as cannon fodder.

Jack joins Carl in this mission but, in typical 24 style, the peace is pretty quickly disturbed. It all happens in real time over two hours and Jack’s faced with a massive dilemma at the end, deciding whether to go back to that 24 world or not. It’s not giving too much away to say he goes back, but how he gets back is very interesting. It’s a terrific dilemma.

So Carl Benton’s Jack’s buddy rather than his mentor?
They were considering making Carl his mentor in the original script and maybe using an older actor. It goes back to my relationship with Kiefer. We made a movie about eight years ago, got on really well and have always kept in touch. In fact, he was actually reading the very first 24 script when we did that film together. Through the years he’s been trying to get me to do 24. Last year I was going to join the show but I already had a couple of other things going on. This part was perfect though because Jack and Carl haven’t seen each other for about 10 years either. That was great as an actor to play on our own relationship.

Eli Stone - praying for time

9pm, Eli Stone, Sci-Fi
Eli’s latest vision features a shocking earthquake in San Franciso, and it turns out the region affected is the spot his latest client is threatening to build a huge shopping mall on, evicting all the local residents in the process. The only way he can save the people is to get the go-ahead on the shopping mall - and he might have to resort to bribery to get his way.

10pm, Lipstick Jungle, Living
NEW SERIES Don’t you just love it when one series ends and the other one begins straight away? Don’t get too excited though, the lipstick ladies have been axed in the US so this will be the last batch of big city bitchiness from Victory et al. Nico is driven to desperate measures by her guilt over the fling with Kirby, and Wendy’s opinionated mother Joyce (the ever marvellous Mary Tyler Moore) pops round to wind up her daughter.

11pm, CSI, Five US
This is a real golden oldie of an episode, as Grissom and Catherine take a jaunt to Miami to investigate a link to their latest murder case, and team up with golden boy Horatio Caine. If you watch very carefully, you’ll notice Grissom doesn’t share any lines or scenes with any of the CSI Miami team - actor William Petersen was dead against CSI spin-offs and asked the producers to keep him well away from his Florida counterparts!

Six things we learned today | Monday 17 November

 Monk to end!

1. The next obsessive, compulsive season of Monk will be its last.

2. Pamela Anderson is to guest star as herself in the US version of Kath & Kim.

3. Former 24 star Reiko Aylesworth will be involved in multiple romances in Lost.

4. And there’s plenty of backstage Lost info in this chat with the show’s producers - including why Mr Eko didn’t stick around for long…

5. One former County nurse who won’t be returning in ER’s finale series is Julianna Margulies’s grumpy-pants Carol Hathaway.

6. Alec Baldwin’s face has appeared on toilet paper in the Netherlands to promote 30 Rock.

Out of the blogosphere… The latest US TV news and talk from the TV Blog Coalition

Each week the TV Blog Coalition – of which TV Spy is proud to be a member of – highlights some of the best American TV news and views from around the web…

From the curmudgeons at House to the sex-crazed residents of Grey’s Anatomy, which medical show’s staff would you most want treating you? (BuzzSugar)

This week, Sandie came up with a cool Twilight TV series: The Cullens. (Daemon’s TV)

Looking for happy thoughts to hold of the grey and dreary days of winter, Jody came up with a list of her Top 5 Happy TV Moments like Buffy not letting The First keep her down in “Chosen” or the series premiere of Lost. (RTVW)

If it wrong for an old dude to like the new Taylor Swift album Fearless, Scooter doesn’t want to run into Chris Hansen anytime soon. (Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green)

The set-ups are getting a bit obvious, but Vance still likes Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters and Degrassi: TNG. (Tapeworthy)

Jace interviewed Chris Lilley, the creator/writer/star of HBO’s new comedy series Summer Heights High, about what it’s like to play Jonah Takalua, what’s next for him and the characters, and those rumours that he refused to sell the format rights for Summer Heights High. (Televisionary)

TV Spylights | The pick of the past week on TV Spy

SPYLIGHTS, WK48

We were very pleased to discover that ABC had announced an air date for the new series of Lost in America, and then Ben found a tantalising new clip too. We can’t wait for the return of Jack!

Talking of returning Jacks, we got a sneak peek at 24: Redemption - don’t worry, we’ve got our lips firmly sealed when it comes to spoilers.

Tina Fey comedy 30 Rock may be sorely underrated by schedulers, but it seems Oprah and Jennifer Aniston rate it quite highly.

Never mind the Terminator - we’ve got the Graphinator. Ben’s inner statistician was somehow activated during last week’s episode of Prison Break. Be thankful you weren’t subjected to the Powerpoint presentation…

It seems One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray is trying to prove he’s not just a pretty face, directing a film-noir-themed episode of the show.

And finally, we were extremely unselfish and decided to give away the deluxe Sopranos DVD box-set that we were given. No need to thank us… fuggedahboudit!

Five things we learned today | Friday 14 November

2. Sarah Palin apparently won’t be appearing in Desperate Housewives.

3. Meanwhile, someone Susan loves is going to perish in the Desperate Housewives inferno.

4. The TV Addict is stalking Mark’s beau Cliff off Ugly Betty.

5. Rap star P. Diddy is going to try to better Horatio’s one-liners as a prosecutor in CSI: Miami.

Smallville Season Seven Official Companion book winners

Official Companion Series Seven

Our competition to win one of five copies of Smallville: The Official Companion Season Seven is now closed. Thank you to all the Smallville fans who entered, and correctly said that James Marsters plays the deliciously dastardly Milton Fine.

We used our ever so mundane powers to pick the following five names out of the proverbial hat: Richard Remmer-Riley, Danielle Woodman, Claire Simpson, Diane Smith and Brian Williams. Congratulations to you all - the books will be whizzing their way to you quicksmart!
